In project 4, I dove further into my own mind. Since I am midway through my teenage years, I wanted to figure out more on whats going on in my brain. I researched a lot on how teenagers can manage their emotions and why they feel the way they feel. The biggest thing I wanted to learn more on was why emotions are so confusing for teens. In my social studies portion, I took a look at an old instructional video from the 1950's. Using the video, I created a spoof loosely based off the Mystery Science Theater 3000 show. In the video, I commented on how inaccurate the standards were for teens back then compared to now. For my English project, I read the novel The Weight of Zero and used the themes from the book to create an essay. My essay focussed on how socialization can benefit teens with mental illness. This tied into my project because it looked at how teens can deal with the changes in their brains and what can help them relieve the stress of growing up. Finally, in my art project, I made a visually complex piece incorporating thoughts and feelings I've experienced and included them into one piece.
Art Component
This piece tied in my personal life to my focus in my project. I tied in some lines and key words from articles I read. Based on general experiences among teens, I picked out things that stood out to me. I also tied in things that pop into my head when I think about my mental state and the things I have gone through. I made this piece complex and confusing to symbolize the confusion in a teenager's mind as they go through adolescents and deal with complex emotions.
History component
I wanted to create this video because I wanted to incorporate how mental illness and emotions used to be dealt with my adults. This spoof portrayed the inaccuracy of the original video and I incorporated facts from today and how kids would act today.
English component
For my English project, I read the novel The Weight of Zero to guide the info and focus of my essay. I tied the novel in to the topic of my project and created my informative essay. The overall focus of it was how socialization benefits teens with mental illnesses.
Synthesis in my project
In this project, each aspect portrayed synthesis in a different way. For my english portion, I read the novel the Weight of Zero and used info and notes from the book to find a central theme. I used this theme and combined it with the overall focus of my project and created my essay. Then in history, I used the knowledge I gathered and applied it to a video from a few decades ago. The result of this was my video spoof. Finally for art, I used personal experiences and added it to the overall ideas I gathered from articles and websites. Combining all of these aspects, I put them into my final art project.
